Jean Steinhardt's House Portraits

"Every house has a story ... A house portrait helps you tell it."

On Heights Boulevard, Houston, Texas

Original drawing by Jean Steinhardt (b. 1948, Iowa City, Iowa)

17"x23" India ink on BFK Rives (France) Registered watermark, 250 g/m2, acid free, buffered, 100% cotton

Built 2006 by a design team consisting of Jared Wheat (jared@pyramidbuildersinc.com) of Pyramid Builders, Taylor Burch, and Cathy Bauguss (cbauguss@comcast.net)

The house portrait was commissioned by Cathy Bauguss as a gift to her client, Evelyn " Patti" Worthington.  Cathy was a member of the design team that worked on the project to build a house in the Victorian style on the property.  "At the beginning of the project," Cathy recalls, "Mrs. Worthington knew she wanted a Victorian house ... and remembered a home she admired as a young woman.  The home had gone through several changes (including a funeral home) and ultimately became the Blacksburg (Virginia) Museum.  We obtained the footprint of the house from the museum and went from there to creat her own personal environment."

Tragedy struck on 3 January 2011, when a horrific fire destroyed the home.  Patti Worthington and a caretaker died in the blaze.
